Schroeder refused to break out friendship with Putin

The ex-Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder refused to interrupt contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin, since he believes that it is possible to complete the conflict in Ukraine only through diplomatic negotiations. He stated this in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Schroeder emphasized that he does not believe in the military solution of the Ukrainian issue, because it can only be resolved by diplomacy. The politician said that Putin is interested in resolving the situation by negotiations.

Earlier, the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the ruling coalition in the country, decided to deprive the position of Schroeder’s parliament because of his close ties with Russia and Putin. Schroeder himself noted that he relates to consideration of this issue quite calmly and this will not change his political beliefs.
