In Kosovo, on Sunday, November 9, the second round of local government elections is taking place.
Elections are being held in 18 municipalities, where in the first round, none of the candidates was able to get more than 50% of the votes.
The voting process started at 07:00 and will end at 19:00 local time. 1 million 316 thousand 672 voters have the opportunity to determine the heads of 18 of the country’s 38 municipalities.
Elections to local government bodies in Kosovo are traditionally held every four years. In the second round, scheduled after the first stage on October 12, the two candidates who received the greatest support from voters compete in each of the specified municipalities.
The second round also covers the capital of the country, Pristina, and the city of Prizren. Particular attention is focused on the only Turkish municipality of Kosovo – Mamusha, where the candidate of the Democratic Turkish Party of Kosovo (KDTP) Abdulhadi Krasnić and the representative of the Mamusha People’s Movement (MHH) Fikret Morina are fighting for the post of head of the municipality.
The Central Election Commission of Kosovo (KQZ) intends to publish preliminary unofficial voting results before midnight. KQZ Chairman Krešnik Radonjic confirmed full readiness for the elections and appealed to citizens to actively participate in voting and follow the established rules.
The previous local government elections in Kosovo took place in 2021.
