Separatists began preparations for joining Russia

The separatist regime in the Georgian region South Ossetia confirmed its intention to join Russia. Anatoly Bibilov, who lost the “presidential election” in this so -called “republic,” said that all the necessary documents for holding a referendum on joining Russia were collected and transferred to the Central Election Commission. According to him, the “Central Election Commission” must approve the date of the referendum.

March 30, South Ossetian separatists announced plans to join Russia. The head of the separatist regime Bibilov said that the referendum would be held after the “presidential election” in April and that the process of joining Russia will be completed by the end of April or early May. However, in the “election” on April 10, Bibilov failed to gain sufficient number of votes, and on May 8 the second round of “elections” took place. Bibilov opponent Alan Gagloev said that he scored more than half of the vote. Bibilov recognized his victory.

Anatoly Bibilov voiced the idea of joining Russia on the eve of the “elections” in 2017, and this initiative then helped him win. However, after those “elections” the plan of joining Russia was postponed. In this regard, many observers considered that the initiative of Bibilov is used as a political instrument. However, the loser in the “election” of Bibilov told reporters that the referendum would still take place.

According to him, all the documents necessary for the referendum have already been collected and submitted to the Central Election Commission, who must consider them and then submit them to the Supreme Court and determine the date, writes RBC.

It should be noted that the initiative of South Ossetian separatists about unification with Russia was immediately supported in Moscow. Formally, South Ossetia is recognized by Russia as an “independent republic.” In this regard, a referendum on the unification of separatists with Russia forms a “legal framework” for the annexation of part of Georgia.

It is expected that the so -called “people’s republics” in the east of Ukraine will also “decide” to join Russia. There are already reports that certain preparations are underway to this. And representatives of the “people’s republics” do not hide that such plans are.
