Son of ex-dictator may become President of Philippines

The Philippines are preparing for the presidential election and elections to local authorities planned for Monday, May 9.

The current president Rodrigo Duterte does not participate in the elections: Filipino laws do not provide for the second term.

One of the leading candidates for the country’s presidency is called the current vice president, an independent candidate Leni Robredo, Euronews reports. The unconditional leader of the presidential race is Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the son of the former dictator of the Philippines. Polls give him 56% of the vote, he is much ahead of all rivals. In the race for the vice-president armchair in the last election, Leni Robredo went around it only half a percent.

64-year-old politician infrequently performs in traditional media, but he leads a large-scale campaign on social networks, hoping primarily for young people.
