Spanish intelligence head is removed from his post due to a spy scandal

The Spanish government decided to dismiss the director of the National Intelligence Center of the country PAS Esteban, TASS reports with reference to the La Sexta television channel.

According to the channel, the decision was made against the backdrop of a flared spy scandal in the kingdom. Esteban became the first woman in this post. She headed the intelligence center in 2020.

Earlier in Spain, a scandal broke out after the media appeared that more than 60 supporters of the independence of Catalonia allegedly became victims of cyberspilation with the PEGASUS program, which allows access to the content of phones. Among those who could be kept via a mobile phone were followed by the head of the Catalonia Government, Aragones, as well as other former regional leaders. At the same time, the Kingdom authorities said that the mobile phones of the Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez and the head of the Ministry of Defense of Margarita Robbles were attacked in 2021 using the Pegasus program.
