State Duma of Russian Federation adopted amendments to life punishment for Stateizer

The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted amendments to the Criminal Code, which, according to several corpus delicti, is primarily for terrorism, sabotage and state reception, – it is proposed to significantly increase the lower and upper limit of responsibility up to life imprisonment, the press service of the legislative body reports Russian authorities.

The law proposes to significantly tighten the punishment under Article 360 ​​of the Criminal Code (attack on persons or institutions that enjoy international defense): punishment will follow not only for an attack on a representative of a foreign state or an employee of an international organization who enjoys international protection, but also for the threat of such crimes. For such a violation, imprisonment for a period of seven to 12 years will face (now from two to six years).

The same act committed in order to provoke war or complicate international relations will be punished by deprivation of liberty for a term of 12 to 20 years (now from five to 10 years).

The amendments also increase the lower boundaries of punishment under Article 361 of the Criminal Code “Act of International Terrorism”: for committing an explosion, arson or other actions outside the territory of the Russian Federation that endanger life, health, freedom or inviolability of citizens of the Russian Federation in order to violate peaceful coexistence of states and peoples or directed against the interests of the Russian Federation, as well as the threats of these actions will be punished by deprivation of liberty for a term of 12 to 20 years (valid from 10 years) or lifelong deprivation of liberty.

Financing of the acts provided for by the first part of this article, the declination, recruitment or other involvement of a person in their commission or preparation for the purpose of committing these acts will be punished by deprivation of liberty for a term of 10 to 20 years (valid from eight years) or lifelong life) imprisonment.
