Steinmeier: Germany is not at war

Germany in the light of events in Ukraine is not at war, but for the country the era of challenges begins.

This was stated by Germany President Frank-Walter Steinmeyer at the ceremony of presenting to Boris Pistorus of a letter on the appointment of the new Minister of Defense of Germany.

“Germany is not at war, but the years of dividends, which Germany received for so long and abundantly in peacetime, has passed. The era of negativity begins for Germany. We must react to the challenges that await us,” – He said.

The president noted that “in the light of new threats and geopolitical changes, it is now important to prepare the Bundeswehr to contain a potential enemy and defense.”

“He must consistently focus on the implementation of the main task – the protection of the territory of the country and NATO. For this, he needs more modern and complex equipment, more effective purchases, sufficient number of staff, attention and respect,” said Steinmeier.

“We cannot waste time. Being a strong country in the center of Europe, we are responsible not only for ourselves, but also for others,” he believes.

Steinmeyer pointed out that Pistorius takes office in a dangerous situation when the country is in the face of threats and danger.
