Russian stock markets began a week with a decrease against the backdrop of the expectations of upcoming negotiations in Istanbul.
The Moscow Exchange Index with an additional code (IMOEX2) at the opening decreased by almost 1.3% and dropped below 2793 points, and the RTS dollar index also fell by 1.28% to 1119 points.
The Russian ruble has weakened 0.27%to the dollar, the dollar/ruble is traded at 79.3.
Analysts note that due to yesterday’s blows of Ukraine on military airfields of Russia, pessimism prevails regarding the upcoming negotiations in Istanbul.
Istanbul peace negotiations
Türkiye, which in May gathered delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine at the same table three years later, on June 2, organizes negotiations in Istanbul.
The Russian delegation is represented by the assistant to the president Vladimir Medinsky. The Ukrainian side is headed by the Minister of Defense Rustem Umarov. The meeting will be in a closed format.
The Russian delegation is ready to transfer its memorandum to Ukrainian and give the “necessary explanations” on it. The Ukrainian side is expected to insist on the ceasefire and will raise the question of the meeting at the level of leaders on the agenda.
The first round of negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine took place on May 16 in the residence of Dolmabakhche in Istanbul. It is expected that the second round of negotiations between the conflicting parties will be held on June 2 at 13.00 (Turkish time) in the Palace of Chyragan.
According to the results of the first meeting, the parties agreed to conduct a large -scale exchange of prisoners according to the formula “1000 by 1000”, to imagine in detail their views on a possible ceasefire, and then continue negotiations.
Kyiv and Moscow reported that the exchange of prisoners, agreed in Istanbul, was completed on May 25.
