Sudanese army to extend ceasefire for another 72 hours

The Sudanese army announced that thanks to the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the United States, it decided to extend the current ceasefire for another 72 hours.

“The command of the Armed Forces decided to extend the ceasefire for another 72 hours to create favorable conditions for the evacuation of foreigners and facilitate the humanitarian aspects of the life of the Sudanese people,” the army said.

The army noted that the ceasefire will act from midnight and the hope is expressed that the rebels (quick response forces) this time will not violate the conditions of the ceasefire.

April 25, with the mediation of the United States, a 72-hour ceasefire was announced. The period of the truce is excised today at midnight.

Earlier, the chairman of the sovereign Council of Sudan, General Abdelfattah Al-Burghan, said that he received the initiative to resolve the crisis in the country, initiated by the intergovernmental organization for development (Igaya).

According to the Sudanese army, at a virtual meeting of the heads of the State Parties, Al-Burghan asked the heads of the state of South Sudan, Kenya and Djibuti to work out proposals to resolve the current crisis.

The initiative consists in extending the current ceasefire for another 72 hours and the direction of the representative of the Armed Forces and rebels to Jubu, the capital of Southern Sudan, to discuss the details of the initiative.

Al-Burkhan said that Igaga received the initiative and, in principle, approves her. He thanked representatives of the organization for the efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan.
