Summit of heads of state of Central Asia starts in Dushanbe

In Dushanbe on September 14, the fifth consultative meeting of the heads of the state of Central Asia starts.

The event will be attended by the presidents of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev, Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymukhamedov and Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. In addition, the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will take part as an honorary guest in the meeting.

The initiator of the meetings of the heads of the Central Asian state was the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyev, who voiced the corresponding initiative at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York in 2017.

The agenda of meetings in the capital of Tajikistan will include questions of further development of cooperation in order to strengthen political interaction, ensure sustainable economic growth, deepen humanitarian ties and joint response to calls and threats of regional and environmental safety, exchange of views on actual regional and international issues.

Over the past years, four advisory meetings of the leaders of the Central Asian states took place: in 2018 – in the capital of Kazakhstan, in 2019 – in Tashkent, in 2021 – in the tourist zone of Avaz in Turkmenistan and in 2022 – in the city Cholpon-Ata in Kyrgyzstan.

On September 15, a meeting of the Council of the International Salvation Fund for Aral, created to overcome the environmental disaster in the area of ​​the dry Aral Sea, is also planned.
