Iraq’s Sunni political forces, which won the general elections on November 11, announced the creation of a unified platform called the National Political Council.
A written statement issued by the new structure emphasizes that the Council was created to jointly overcome the numerous challenges that the country faces today in the political, economic and social spheres.
The National Political Council included almost all Sunni parties, groups and coalitions that received seats in parliament. Among them are the Taqqaddum party, the Azim party, the Siyadeh party, the National Hashim coalition and the Jamahir party.
The constituent assembly with broad representation was held in the capital of the country – Baghdad – on the initiative of the leader of the Siyadeh alliance, Khamis Hancher.
The statement specifically notes that the main task of the Council will be the protection of the political, social and constitutional rights of the Sunni community, as well as constructive interaction with other political forces solely in the interests of all Iraq and its people.
