Sweden refuses to place nuclear weapons

Sweden refuses to place nuclear weapons. The country will sign a declaration of this after joining NATO, as Denmark and Norway did, said the head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry tobias Billstrom. This was reported by the Swedish edition of MØre.

So he answered the question of journalists about the policy of the authorities about the placement of nuclear weapons in the country after joining NATO. Earlier, citizens began to criticize the government for a departure from a policy of non -replacement of nuclear weapons.

The head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry called these accusations “a storm in a cup of water.” He explained that now the government will not change the conditions under which the previous government founded its application for membership in the Alliance.

He confirmed that the application was submitted without any requirements, so Sweden should first become a full member before one-sided statements of this kind can be made. At the same time, the minister referred to the experience of Denmark and Norway, who announced the unwillingness to place nuclear weapons on their territory after joining NATO.

“As soon as Sweden enters the Alliance, the attitude to the government will be the same as before: we will act as Norway and Denmark,” said Tobias Billstrom
