Sweden sends diplomats to Turkey for negotiations on an application for joining NATO

A team of Swedish diplomats will go to Turkey for negotiations regarding the objections of Ankara to join Sweden to NATO. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Sweden Peter Hultvist, writes DW.

In a conversation with journalists before the official vote of Sweden’s parliament for applying for membership, Hultwest said that the diplomats will conduct a “discussion and dialogue” to see “what is really being discussed”.

NATO expansion requires the approval of all 30 members of the alliance and their parliaments.

The minister said that the deputies will hold parliamentary debate on Monday about joining NATO, which is considered as a formality, since most supports this step. The government plans to officially submit an application later on this day.
