Syria and Jordan signed a number of agreements on partnership in the field of information technology, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
As reported by the Syrian news agency SANA, the Syrian-Jordanian Forum on Information and Communication Technologies was held in Damascus in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship of Jordan, as well as the Association of Information and Communication Technologies of Jordan.
As part of the forum, the parties concluded several partnership agreements in the field of information technology, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
The signed agreements are expected to come into force in December – the anniversary of the fall of the ousted Bashar al-Assad regime and the liberation of Syria.
Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdus Salam Haykal said that the Syrian market is open to Jordanian companies, and also emphasized that a permanent presence in the country is necessary for a deep understanding of the peculiarities of the local market.
According to Minister, the Syrian technology sector needs to adapt many modern global concepts in recent years, such as cybersecurity, data protection and digital transformation systems.
The department is working to incorporate these concepts into the strategic plan, and is also actively working with the Investment Authority to attract regional and international investment, create conditions for technology entrepreneurship and support the growth of startups, he said.
Jordanian Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Simeirat, in turn, noted that the forum became a bridge to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Thanks to the forum, opportunities for partnership between the public and private sectors in the field of communications and technology were explored, and the horizons of cooperation were expanded, he said.
