Syria Returned To Union For Mediterranean After 14 Years

Syria took part in the Union’s Regional Forum for the Mediterranean for the first time after a 14-year break. This is stated in a statement by the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

The tenth forum was held in Barcelona (Spain).

Representatives of Syria took part in the ministerial meeting organized within the framework of the forum.

The department called Syria’s return to the organization an opportunity to restore the country’s role in the regional dialogue and strengthen comprehensive cooperation in the region.

The regime of Bashar al-Assad suspended Syria’s membership in the Union for Mediterranean in 2011 in response to sanctions imposed by the European Union against Damascus.
