The event is attended by heads of railway administrations of the CIS countries, Baltic, as well as representatives of associated members of the Council.
The meeting includes 11 key issues relating to the sustainable functioning of the railway systems of states – participants in the CIS.
Among them are issues of tariff policy in international freight and passenger transportation, strengthening the economic and financial stability of railway departments, as well as plans for the development of international transport corridors.
General Director of the State Unitary Enterprise Tajik Railways, Kremil Mirzoali, noted the main achievements of the industry during the years of independence and emphasized the contribution of railway transport to the development of the country’s economy.
The chairman of the Directorate of the Council for Rail transport, Viktor Popov also highlighted the current state of cooperation between the participating countries and outlined priority directions of further integration in the field of railway transport.
Council for Railway Transport of the CIS was created on February 14, 1992 as a coordinating body of railway administrations of countries.
The Council performs the functions of an industry interstate body coordinating the joint work of the railway systems of the Commercial Country.
The Council includes the railway administrations of Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Representatives of Iran, Latvia and Georgia take part as associated members in the work. The administrations of Lithuania and Estonia collaborate on the basis of individual agreements.
The International Confederation of Trade Unions of Railway Workers and Builders of Transport has the status of an observer under the Council. As part of the meeting, bilateral and multilateral negotiations are provided between representatives of railway administrations.
Participants discussed issues of increasing the volume of transportation, improving logistics and providing benefits for railway services.
During the event, an exhibition of achievements of the railway industry of Tajikistan, as well as products of domestic manufacturers, artisans and farmers,
was also organized.
The meeting participants got acquainted with the exposition accompanied by representatives of the host. The work of the 82nd meeting of the Council will continue in Dushanbe until June 12.
