Tens of thousands of people who fled their homes due to attacks and fighting involving the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) have found refuge in the cities of al-Debbe and al-Ubaid.
Displaced people are in dire need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Commissioner of the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission Selva Adem told Anadolu.
At the office in Port Sudan, Adem spoke about a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) Hamza Taşdelen and Turkish Ambassador to Khartoum Fatih Yildiz.
She thanked the Turkish state, its institutions and non-governmental organizations for supporting the Sudanese people in difficult times period.
“I express my gratitude to Turkey and its organizations that came to our aid at the most difficult moment. They were next to us,” she said.
Turkey does not pursue selfish goals
Adem emphasized that Turkey provides humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people without any benefit for itself. “We know that Turkey does not pursue any selfish goals, it only provides humanitarian assistance to its brothers in Sudan,” she noted.
According to Adem, after the RRF attacks, there was a large-scale resettlement of the population from North Darfur and North Kordofan, and the main point of concentration of refugees was the city of al-Debbe. “The numbers are changing every day because every day there are new groups of people forced to leave their homes,” Adem said.
The commissioner stressed that tens of thousands of people are in dire need of housing, food, medical care, medicine and sanitation support. According to her, the voluntary return of the population to the army-controlled cities of Khartoum, Wad Medani and Sinnar has begun. In these areas, as Adem pointed out, it is necessary to restore medical facilities, build new health centers, rehabilitate water wells, and renew housing and agricultural infrastructure.
