Thousands Protest In Mexico Against Government Security Policies

In the capital of Mexico, Mexico City, 20 people were injured as a result of riots that arose during a protest against government security policies. The demonstration was organized by a group calling itself “Generation Z.”

According to Mexican media, thousands of participants gathered at the Independence Monument and headed to the National Palace.

Police used tear gas and water cannons against a group of protesters who threw stones at barriers in front of the palace and struck with hammers.

Detainments were reported among the demonstrators. The action was attended by students, farmers, representatives of opposition parties and civil activists who criticized the long-term situation with high levels of violence and crime in the country.

Demonstrators also condemned the murder of the mayor of the city of Urupan in the state of Michoacan, Carlos Manzo, who was shot on November 1, 2025 during the “Festival of Lights.”

The march participants emphasized that despite the change of government, the security problem could not be solved, and called for “not to forget” the victims of violence.

President Claudia Sheinbaum said that the opposition is behind the “Generation Z” protests and described the movement as politicized.

Sheinbaum added that the authorities have made progress in the fight against violence and that the protests are an attempt to manipulate the situation.
