Tokayev does not want to stay at head of ruling party

President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev said that he could leave from the chairmanship of the ruling party “Nur Otan” at the end of the year.

Tokayev joined the position of party chairman on Friday, January 28, and in the first speech in the new position spoke about possible care from it.

“As the head of state, I will serve as a guarantor of open and honest political competition. My constitutional duty is to ensure the agreed actions of all branches of government and the responsibility of state bodies before the people,” he said.

President of Kazakhstan also noted that the head of state should be on distance from parties and movements.

“These circumstances certainly suggest a certain distance distance from the activities of any parties and movements. Therefore, after a while, perhaps, by the end of this year, we will return to the question of the feasibility of my further chairmanship in the party,” noted Tokaev.
