Tokayev offered not to rush with transition of Kazakh language with Cyrillic to Latin

In Kazakhstan, you need to hold a linguistic reform, but at the same time you can not rush to the transition to Latin, said the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev in an interview with Qazaqstan TV channel.

“It should be approached with all seriousness. Need careful examination. It is impossible to hurry on issues such as language policy, because it is a very sensitive topic,” said the President of Kazakhstan.

Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev also stressed that it was not in reforms, but in the importance of maintaining Kazakh. “Otherwise, it cannot be, because in the most difficult moments of history, the language has been preserved thanks to our wise ancestors, thanks to our people,” the Kommersant Tokaeva leads.

In 2017, the ex-president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree on the phased translation of the Kazakh language from Cyrillic to Latin to 2025. In January 2021, the Government of Kazakhstan stated that the transition to Latin will be held from 2023 to 2031.
