Tokyo’s answer to Moscow: Japan sends Russian consul

Japan put forward a demand for the Russian consul in Sapporo to leave the country’s territory within six days. This decision was made in response to the interrogation and expulsion of the Japanese consul in Vladivostok. On Tuesday, October 4, said Japanese Foreign Minister Esimas Hayashi, reports Kyodo.

Hayashi noted that Japan announced the consul of the Russian Federation by Persona Non Grata in response to the actions of the Kremlin in relation to the Japanese consul.

At the same time, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Japan Mikhail Galuzin was called to the Foreign Ministry in order to inform Moscow about Tokyo countermeasures.

According to Hayashi, during the detention in Russia, the Japanese consul blindfolded and physically restrained him, although he did not perform any unlawful actions. He emphasized that such decisions of Russians are a clear and serious violation of international law.

It was previously reported that the Russian FSB detained the consul of the Japanese Consulate in Vladivostok Tatsunori allegedly for receiving “limited distribution information” for money. Russia also stated that the Japanese diplomat allegedly pleaded guilty.
