Trial of accused of embezzlement of money allocated on Karabas by scientists

A preliminary hearing in a criminal case against former employees of the Institute of Archeology, Ethnography and Anthropology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan – Sabukhi Huseynov and his wife Gulistan Isaeva.

According to the Haqqın.az correspondent, at the meeting, chaired by the judge of the Baku court on serious crimes, Azad Medzhidov was clarified the questionnaire data of the accused. At the same time, the lawyers of the defendants filed petitions for the return of the criminal case for a preliminary investigation. The defense side believes that the charges made are based only on assumptions.

The couple, during the period of work at the institute, complained that lawlessness reigns in Nana, and the funds allocated for expeditions were used for other purposes. On their complaint, a commission was created, an audit was carried out, numerous violations of the law were identified. The complaint stated that more than 2 million manat from the state budget and 800 thousand manat of extra-budgetary funds were allocated for expeditions in 2016-2021.

The defense claims that the leadership of the institute, called by these complaints, in turn, complained to the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General of Huseynov and Isaev.

The preparatory court session was postponed until March 1.

Note that the scientist-historian Huseynov and his wife Isaev are accused of assigning 92 thousand manat allocated for research in territories liberated from occupation. A criminal case has been instituted against Huseynov and Isaeva under articles 179.3.2 (large -scale theft) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. They were not arrested. The victim was recognized by the Institute of Archeology, Ethnography and Anthropology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
