President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Tufan Erhürman, after completing negotiations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, spoke at a joint press conference at the presidential residence in Ankara.
“Turkey, as yesterday and today, remains one of the main participants in all efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue,” he said.
“During my term of office, within the framework of unbreakable fraternal ties between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Turkey, I will strive to take the relations between the two countries to an even higher level, to make my country and my people more open to the Turkish public,” Erhürman said, noting that Turkey is one of the three guarantor countries with powers and responsibilities over the whole of Cyprus.
President Erhürman pointed out that the armament of southern Cyprus and the region is increasing every day.
“Not only thanks to our unbreakable fraternal relations, but also in the context of the daily increase in armament in the south of Cyprus and in the region, Turkey, as the guarantor country providing the legal basis for the security of the Cypriot Turks, remains one of the main participants in all efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem, both yesterday and today,” he emphasized.
“The Turks of Cyprus are one of the two equal co-founders of Cyprus. This status of my people is not subject to discussion, negotiation or deal. status, the Turkish Cypriot people have sovereign rights over the entire territory of the island of Cyprus.”
The President of the TRNC emphasized that it is impossible to ignore the will of the Turkish Cypriot people in issues affecting the entire island of Cyprus and all its inhabitants, such as energy, hydrocarbons, maritime areas of responsibility and trade routes.
