US President Donald Trump signed a bill entitled “Law on Removing from the Internet”, designed to prevent the use of AI on the Internet for sexual exploitation, especially in relation to women and children. The initiator of the bill was his wife – Melania Trump.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in the White House garden, Trump emphasized that this law was the first in its field. He noted that with the development of AI technology, “terrible” images created without the knowledge and consent of the victims began to spread on the Internet.
“With the growth of generative technologies of artificial intelligence, countless women and children became victims of dipfaces – obscene images that are distributed without their consent. This is wrong and monstrous. Today we officially declare this outlabel,” Trump said.
He warned that violators of the law threaten up to 3 years in prison, and online platforms that distribute such materials are required to immediately delete them.
“We will not allow tolerance for sexual exploitation on the Internet. This phenomenon has reached an unprecedented scale, continues to aggravate, and I hope that this law will help to stop it,” he added.
Trump also drew attention to the fact that the law received support in the Congress – 99 votes in the Senate and 408 votes in the House of Representatives.
“The first lady showed that in Congress it is possible to work outside the framework of party affiliation. This is incredible. It is a pity that not all bills receive such support,” he said.
The bill was submitted to Congress by a senator from the Republican Party from Texas Ted Cruz and a democrat from Minnesota Amy Klobushar on the initiative of Melania Trump. For the first time he was voting in the Senate in February, and then was approved by the House of Representatives.
The document prohibits placing pornographic images and videos on online platforms and sites of pornographic images generated using AI or computer, which use images of real people without their consent.
