Thanks to the tariff policy implemented by the US President Donald Trump, the federal budget revenues from customs duties in the 2025 financial year reached record indicators.

The first step was the first step from February 1 additional duties – 25 % for goods from Canada and Mexico and 10 % for imports from China, justified by the need to combat the illegal turnover of fentanyl and the problem of illegal migration. Duties for goods from Canada and Mexico were temporarily suspended for 30 days, but on March 4 they entered into force, and the tariff for China was increased to 20 %.
April 2, called Trump, “Liberation Day”, became a turning point in trade policy. The basic tariff was introduced 10 % for all countries, and for individual states – higher rates. These measures were supplemented by targeted decisions, including increasing the duties for Chinese goods to 125 % (taking into account the current 20 percent rate through the fight against fentanil, the total tariff reached 145 %). After consultations in Geneva, the USA and China, for 90 days, reduced the tariff to 30 %, and in August the benefits were extended by 90 days.
