Turkey came out of Istanbul Council of Europe Convention

Ankara came out from the Istanbul Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention and Combating Violence against Women, writes the official newspaper of the Turkish government RESMI Gazete.

“The action of the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention and Combating Violence against Women and violence in a family signed on behalf of the Turkish Republic on May 11, 2011 and approved by the Government Decree of February 10, 2012, discontinued against the Turkish Republic,” reported in published document.

Failure to participate in the Convention commented on the vice-president of Turkey Fat Oktay. He stated that the Turkish society will independently protect the rights of women in their country.

“Our sincere struggle for bringing the position of the Turkish woman in society to the level of which it is worthy, will continue when saving our traditional values. There is no need to look for a medicine outside, to imitate another for this higher target. The solution is in our traditions and customs, “wrote Okey in his account on Twitter.

The Istanbul Convention was adopted and ratified by all Council of Europe member countries on May 11, 2011, among which Turkey became the first.
