Turkey celebrates 104th anniversary of Sivas Congress

In Turkey, the 104th anniversary of the beginning of the Sivas Congress, whose participants rejected the scenarios of fragmentation and the mandate of external forces over the country, which contributed to the further success of the national liberation struggle of the Turkish people.

delegates from all areas of Turkey met in Sivas from September 4 to 11, 1919 for the only purpose – to end the occupation of the country’s territories.

The founder of the republic – Mustafa Kemal Ataturk subsequently stated: “During the Sivas Congress, decisions were made that contributed to the formation of the Turkish people.”

Congress made it possible to consolidate efforts to combat interventionists, rally in the name of future Turkey, which ultimately led to the announcement on October 29, 1923 on the creation of the Turkish Republic.

The city of Sivas for 108 days was the center of the national liberation struggle of the Turkish people.
