The investigation came to the conclusion that an ordinary police officer could not have access to information about the schedule of the Russian ambassador, which means that the crime was planned with the support of the intelligence structure.

The investigation found a video with Fetullah Gulen, as well as the photo of Karlov and the program of encrypted correspondence, which was used by Gulen’s accomplices.

The trial in the case of attempting an ambassador to the Russian Federation in Ankara launched on January 8, 2019 in the second court on particularly serious crimes of the city of Ankara. The position of the prosecution was announced on March 5, 2020, and the final decision was made on March 9, 2021.

According to the verdict of the court, the defendants of Shahin were burned and Salikh Yilmaz were sentenced to two life -long terms in a strict regime colony under the articles: “Trying to overthrow the constitutional system” and “preliminary murder for terrorist purposes.”
