Turkey: Erdogan’s nomination for third presidential term was recognized as legitimate

The Minister of Justice of Turkey, Bekir Bozdag, said on Thursday that the nomination of the current president of the Republic of Tayyip Erdogan was a candidate for the post of head of state for the third time. His words are given by the newspaper “Yeni Akit”.

“Our candidate is President Tayyip Erdogan. His nomination as a candidate in the upcoming elections is legal,” the newspaper quoted him.

Earlier, representatives of the Turkish opposition have repeatedly made the statements that Erdogan had no right to re -elect to the presidency. Meanwhile, in early February, the speaker of the Turkish Turkish Parliament Mustaf Schentop reported that the Constitution of the republic gives Erdogan the right to nominate his candidacy in the election of the head of state.

In addition, the ruling party of justice and development (PSR) also stated that there were no legal barriers to the third presidential term for the third presidential term. At the same time, the PSR indicates that after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution on the introduction of the presidential form of the reign of Erdogan in the country, only once in the elections, so in 2023 it could again participate in the elections.
