Turkey is discussing the project for the construction of the second nuclear power plant with South Korea and the Russian Federation, and the third – with the PRC. This was announced by the head of the Department of Main Directorate of Nuclear Energy and International Projects of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Salikh Sarah at the opening of the V exhibition and the IX summit of nuclear power plants in Istanbul.

According to him, they plan to build the second nuclear power plant in the Sinop Province, and the third in the region of the Trukya.

Sary said that the necessary studies were completed on the site of the second nuclear power plant in Sinop: “Negotiations with South Korea and the Russian Federation are conducted.”

The construction of the third nuclear power plant in Turkey is being discussed with Chinese specialists. “In addition, we are in close contact with American, British and French companies on MMR (small modular reactors). The place is determined under the fourth nuclear power plant,” said the representative of the institution.

In turn, Anton Dedusenko, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Akkui Nuclear JSC spoke about the implementation of the project of the first nuclear station of Turkey in the province of Mersin.

According to him, by the end of the year it is planned to complete the construction and installation on the first power unit of Akkhoy NPP, work is nearing the end.

Dedusenko said that the Russian side highly appreciates partnership with Turkey and sees great potential for the development of this partnership. “Rosatom is always open to discuss new areas of cooperation with Turkey. Of course, this may include new projects for the construction of high power nuclear power plants,” he added.
