Turkish Captain Sailed For 40 Hours After Shipwreck

Captain Ahmet Volkan Ata, for 40 hours, sailed against the current to escape after his ship sank off the coast of the island of Pulau Yu in Malaysia.

As a result, he was saved by a fishing vessel.

In an interview with an Anadolu agency, the sailor spoke about the experienced. The ship rolled over during the storm on the way to Thailand.

Ata said that the ship sailed from the island of Tioman on the evening of July 28. “When we sailed, the wind speed was 15-20 knots. It was expected that over the next day it would increase to 20-25 knots,” he said.

The agency’s interlocutor said that the ship had fallen into a sudden storm around midnight. “Unfortunately, I could not prevent overturning the ship, and it was noted. The flooding was very sudden and swift,” the captain recalls.

According to Ata, that the sailors from the fishing vessel noticed and saved him on the third day after the crash. He also expressed gratitude for the support of the authorities of Malaysia and the Turkish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
