The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey condemned the “delusional” statements made by the Greek authorities under the pretext of the anniversary of unreasonable “Pontic” accusations that are in no way consistent with historical facts.
The Ministry made a written statement about some events organized on May 19 in Greece and statements by the authorities.
The Foreign Ministry statement says: “We condemn the delusional statements made by the Greek authorities under the pretext of the anniversary of unreasonable” pontic “accusations that are in no way consistent with historical facts.” We reject these statements aimed at defiling our war for the independence, begun on May 19, 1919 under the leadership of the great leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, invented accusations. Although this is a historical fact that the Greek army has committed countless atrocities on the Anatolian lands occupied by it with the support of the imperialist powers of that period, the groundless attempts of today’s Greek policy to re -read the past, on the contrary, have no basis. “
The Foreign Ministry recalls that the atrocities of Greece in Anatolia were reflected in the reports of the Investigative Commission of the Union states and are recorded in Article 59 of the Lausanne Peace Treaty, and Greece was sentenced to pay compensation for violation of the laws of war.
The statement emphasizes that the activities of Pontiff, which arose at the end of the 19th century as a continuation of the ambitions of Greece “Megali the idea” on the Anatolian lands, was forever interrupted by the decisive struggle of the Turkish people.
Turkish Foreign Calls the Greek authorities to abandon the policy of “exploitation for the populist purposes” of these historical events that led to the relocation of the Turkish and Greek peoples.
“We invite you to honor the memory of the victims of brutal crimes committed against the Turks and other ethnic groups, starting with a massacre in Tripoli in 1821. Similar initiatives aimed at harming relations between Turkey and Greece, which in recent years have been developing with positive dynamics, drawing enmity from history, must be stopped”.
Earlier, Greece Prime Minister Kiriaconikiyakis on the social network Facebook made unreasonable statements under the pretext of the anniversary of unreasonable “Pontic” accusations.
