Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Turkey’s re-election as a member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council: “Today’s result once again confirmed Turkey’s effective and reliable position in the IMO due to its capabilities and experience in the field of maritime shipping, including maritime safety, marine environmental protection, international maritime transport and port services. Turkey will continue to make concrete contributions to multilateral cooperation in the field of maritime “
The Ministry issued a written statement regarding the re-election of Turkey to the IMO Council.
The statement notes that Turkey was re-elected as a member of the IMO Council following the elections held within the framework of the 34th session of the General Assembly in London, saying the following:
“Our country, which first nominated its candidacy in 1999, has been continuously represented on the Council since then IMO. Today’s result once again confirmed Turkey’s effective and reliable position in the IMO due to its capabilities and experience in the field of maritime shipping, including maritime safety, marine environmental protection, international maritime transport and port services. Turkey will continue to make concrete contributions to multilateral cooperation in the field of maritime shipping.
