Turkish Foreign Ministry Strongly Condemns Brutal Treatment Of Civilians In Sudan

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the latest developments in Sudan with concern, and expresses its “strong condemnation of the ill-treatment of civilians in the town of al-Fashir, which has come under the control of the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF).”

The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a written statement on the events in the town of al-Fashir, the capital of the state of North Darfur in Sudan.

Noting that Turkey is following the latest developments in Sudan with deep concern and supports the Arab League statement on this issue, the ministry said: “We strongly condemn the ill-treatment of civilians in the city of al-Fashir, which has come under the control of the Rapid Reaction Force.”

“We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities actions in the city and its surroundings, stopping attacks on civilians, ensuring safe passage and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid. We reiterate our open support for the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sudan and emphasize the importance of dialogue for the peaceful resolution of the conflict,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Clashes in Sudan

Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been experiencing conflict between the army and the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF).

The conflict, which has become one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters, has forced more than 14 million people to flee their homes, both inside and outside the country.

The army maintains control over the central areas of the country, including the capital Khartoum, while the RRF has strengthened its position in the west.

Of the five states of the Darfur region, four are under the control of the RRF, and since May 2024, armed groups have besieged the city of al-Fashir, regularly making attempts to capture it.

The day before, the RRF announced that they had taken control of the 6th Infantry army division in al-Fashir, but the Sudanese military has not yet confirmed this information.
