Turkish Ministry Of Transport: Istanbul Airport Remains Busiest In Europe

Istanbul Airport remains the busiest in Europe with a daily average of 1,556 flights, and also ranks seventh in the world in terms of the number of departures – an average of 790 aircraft per day.

This was announced by Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu, commenting on the European Aviation Review report published on 23 October by the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL).

According to the report, Turkey, with a daily average of 3,841 flights, ranks sixth among European countries in terms of air traffic volume, Uraloglu said, explaining that Turkey has surpassed countries such as Greece, the Netherlands, Poland and Norway.

The Minister emphasized that Istanbul Airport, with a daily average number of flights of 1556, retains the status of the busiest airport in Europe, ahead of such large air hubs as Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris Charles de Gaulle and London Heathrow.

“Antalya Airport, with a daily average of 957 flights, ranked as the ninth busiest airport in Europe. In addition, between 13 and 19 October, Istanbul Airport, with a daily average of 790 flights, was ranked among the seven largest airports in the world among 25 global air hubs,” added the head of the department.
