Turkish opposition will present program for transition to parliamentary system

The six -party opposition of Turkey will announce its presidential candidate, who will run against the current president of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in February, a representative of the Turkish opposition said on Friday, writes Daily Sabah.

“Turkey is approaching one of the most significant elections in the centuries -old history of the modern republic. At the same time, Erdogan made it clear on Wednesday that the presidential and parliamentary elections will be held on May 14, a month earlier than the planned deadline.

“The name of the presidential candidate (from a six-party opposition) will probably be announced somewhere in February,” Yunal Cheviczez, adviser to the leader of the main opposition folk-republican party (NRP) Kemal Kylychdaroglu, told reporters.

The Six Party Alliance seeks to form a single platform. Nevertheless, he has yet to agree on a candidate who will challenge Erdogan in the struggle for the presidency. He led his ruling party of justice and development (PSR) to victory more than two decades ago and since then won consistent victories.

PSR Party is currently running along with the Party of the Nationalist Movement (PND) within the framework of a folk alliance.

Two main opposition parties of Turkey, the People’s Republican Party (NRP) and the legal nationalist good party (IP) united with four smaller parties-the Islamic Party of Happiness, the Party of the Future, created by the ex-Prime Minister of the country Akhmet Davutoglu, the Democratic Party and the Party of Democracy and progress under the platform, which promises a return to the parliamentary system of government in case of election.

According to Chevikaz, the leaders of six opposition parties will publish their proposals on January 30 in two documents for the transition period to the parliamentary system and their government program, ”writes the newspaper.
