Turkish parliament extended term of Turkish Navy in Gulf of Aden

The Great National Assembly (Parliament) of Turkey approved the bill extension of the mandate on the presence of the Turkish Navy in the Gulf of Aden, territorial waters and on the coast of Somalia, as well as in the Arabian Sea and adjacent regions.

The new mandate will enter into force on February 10, 2024.

The document signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reminds of Turkey’s contribution to the fight against piracy and armed robbery in the light of the UN Security Council of October 7, 2008.

“Thanks to the deployment of the Turkish Armed Forces, effective measures were taken to ensure the security of merchant ships under the Turkish flag and the trade vessels that were sailing in the region. Turkey is actively involved in joint operations of the international community to combat naval piracy , armed robbery and terrorism at sea, ”the text of the document says.

The document emphasizes the commitment of Turkey to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against piracy and armed robbery at sea.

It is noted that Turkey consistently supports efforts in this direction and is actively involved in the relevant initiatives of the UN, NATO, the EU and the International Maritime Organization.
