Turkish Taekwondo Athlete Merve Dinçel Kavurat Became World Champion For Second Time In Row

Turkish athlete Merve Dinçel Kavurat won a gold medal at the World Taekwondo Championships, held in the Chinese city of Wuxi.

As reported by the Turkish Taekwondo Federation, on the final day of the competition, fights were held among women in the weight category up to 53 kg and men in the weight category up to 74 kg.

The current world champion Merve Dinçel Kavurat began the tournament from the second round, where she won Stavroula Desilu from Greece, then defeated Iranian Mobina Nematzadeh, Po-ya Su from Taiwan in the quarterfinals, and Jana Khattab from Egypt in the semifinals.

In the final, the Turkish athlete confidently beat Dunya Ali Aboutaaleb from Saudi Arabia with a score of 2:0 and became a two-time world champion in a row.

Earlier, in 2023, Dincel Kavurat won gold in the up to 49 kg category at the World Championships in Azerbaijan.

Omer Furkan Korpe dropped out of the tournament

Turkish athlete Omer Furkan Korpe completed his participation in the championship in the fourth round. In the weight category up to 74 kg, he defeated Stefano Cresentini from San Marino and Charalambos Floskunis from Greece, but lost to Kazakhstan’s Ergesh Bekasyly and dropped out of the competition.
