Türkiye among European leaders in sales of electric vehicles

Turkey was ahead of many countries in the European Union in terms of sales of “fully electric” cars.

This is evidenced by the data of the European Association of Automobile Producers (ACEA).

Turkey took sixth place in this segment, ahead of Italy, Spain, Austria, Denmark and Finland.

In 2023, 65,562 cars of this type were sold in the country.

Over the past year, leading European and Asian brands presented their advanced models in the Turkish market.

In addition to electric vehicles, the number of cars with hybrid engines also increases in the Turkish market. Polls show that consumers’ interest in electric cars is quite high.

In general, the market of cars and light commercial cars of Turkey in 2023 increased by 57.4 percent in annual terms. Thus, for the first time in the industry, the figure of 1 million was exceeded – 1,232,635 units were sold. This is evidenced by the Association of Automobile Distributors and Mobility (ODMD).

At the same time, the total sales of hybrid and electric cars exceeded sales of cars with diesel fuel.

In the Turkish automobile market, the growth trend of electric vehicles continues to be high compared to European automobile markets.

According to ACEA, in January-November 2023, the sales of electric vehicles in the “pure form” (BEV) in European countries increased by 48.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1,378,441.
