The Minister of National Defense of Turkey Yashar Guler and the Minister of Defense of Great Britain John Hilia signed a memorandum of understanding in Istanbul regarding the recognition of Turkey as a potential user of the EUROFITER TYPHOON multi -purpose fighter.
According to the Ministry of National Defense of Turkey, the signing ceremony took place as part of the 17th International Office of the Defense Industry (IDEF 2025), which is held at the Istanbul exhibition center.
The official statement notes that the parties confirmed the power of the Turkish-British partnership, emphasized the importance of long-term cooperation in the field of defense and security, including within the framework of NATO, and also expressed the desire to deepen strategic relations to strengthen the collective deterrent of the alliance.
The document emphasizes that “the inclusion of Turkey in the circle of users of Eurofighter Typhoon will be an important step towards strengthening the combat capabilities of the Turkish Air Force and will help strengthen many years of allied relations between the two countries.” It is also noted that this event marks the beginning of a new stage in bilateral cooperation on the joint development of potential and mutual support of the defense industry through the exchange of advanced technologies.
“The memorandum signed today officially consolidates bilateral intentions and brings the parties closer to a comprehensive Typhoon agreement. Both parties regard this as a positive step towards Turkey’s accession to the Eurofighter community and are trying to complete all the necessary procedures as soon as possible,” the Turkish Ministry of Defense said.
