Türkiye is strategic partner of FAO in region

Turkey strengthens its strategic relations with partner countries thanks to its policy under the framework of food security measures, as well as high-quality agricultural products and technologies.

Turkey in recent years has increased investments in infrastructure and technologies related to rural and forestry. In addition, the republic played a significant role in the settlement of the food crisis in the world against the backdrop of the Pandemia of Coronavirus, and later the military confrontation between Russia and Ukraine.

Turkey has expanded the scale of support for projects of research and development centers, and also increased investments in technology to prevent a direct threat to food support and the life of citizens amid climate change. Thanks to trade with other countries, Turkey gained the status of a significant partner in its region.

The subregional coordinator of the food and agricultural organization of the UN (FAO) for Central Asia and the Turkish representative, Viral Gutsu, told Anadol about the importance of the project on climatically optimized and competitive agricultural growth (Tucsap), which was implemented by Turkey together with the World Bank to plan to plan in the country of production, protection of agricultural land and the environment.

According to Gutz, crises such as the Pandemia of Coronavirus and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict exert great pressure on agriculture and the food sector. In addition, climate change also has a direct effect on human life, and this influence will only grow, according to Gutsu.

The subregional coordinator of the FAO attracted the fact that the population under the threat of hunger in the world approaches 1 billion. “We use the generosity of the Turkish people and the government to develop agricultural and forestry in other countries. Turkey already has many technologies. The transfer of experience and information is of great value,” Gutsu said.

In turn, the importance of the Turkish agricultural sector for Russia was noted by the representative of the Russian diplomatic mission Alexei Ivanov.

According to him, Turkey is the largest exporter of agricultural products in Russia and the largest importer of fruits and vegetables. “Bilateral relations in the field of agricultural trade are developing very well. I think that such partnership is very profitable and constructive for both countries. The Turkish agricultural sector is of great importance both in the regional and global aspect,” Ivanov said.
