Turkmenistan and Iran discussed bilateral cooperation issues

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Rashid Merdov, met with a delegation, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic Iran Hosein Amir Abdolkhiyan, who arrived on a working visit to Ashgabat, the press service of the Turkmenistan Foreign Ministry.

The meeting discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral interaction in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The parties noted the importance of meetings at the highest and high levels in the expansion of bilateral friendly relations.

During the negotiations, the importance of the activity of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation of the joint Turkmen-Iranian group emphasized. On the agenda, the development of cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, increasing transport and transit potential were also issued on the agenda.

Diplomats paid attention to the upcoming joint events and meetings scheduled for holding this year, especially to the participation of the Iranian side in large-scale international events in Turkmenistan, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the Turkmen poet and thinker Makhtumkuli Frag.

At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed the mutual commitment to the further course of strengthening the Turkmen-Iranian partnership, based on the original principles of friendship, good neighborliness and mutual respect.

In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran was also accepted by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymuhamedov.

Iran is traditionally one of the most important partners with whom Turkmenistan supports trade and economic relations, the head of state noted, emphasizing the role of the joint Turkmen-Iranian group on economic cooperation, whose activities are aimed at coordinating specific measures to increase interaction in the electricity and transport spheres .
