Two Azerbaijani chess players entered top three at Olympics

The women’s team of Azerbaijan in chess, although she eventually took 7th place at the Chess Olympiad in Indian Chennai, deserves the most flattering words.

The team exactly held the entire tournament, not losing to future champions – the national team of Ukraine. Gunai Mammadzade and her teammate lost only India and in the last round of Georgia. And before that, a brilliant victory over Armenia was won – 4: 0.

It is no coincidence that two Azerbaijani chess players entered the top three on their boards. Hano Baladzhaeva on the second board showed the third result. In nine parties, she won six victories, tied twice and suffered one defeat.

And Ulvia Fatalieva among the fifth numbers completely took 2nd place. In eight parties, she scored 5 points. True, in the last three fights, Ulvia lost, but this did not stop her from being among the best.

The leader of the Gunai Mammadzade team held 10 parties: four victories, four draws and two defeats. This is the fifth indicator on the first board.

The third number of the Azerbaijani team Govhar Abdullaev is also located in the 5th position (three victories, five draws and one defeat).

Gulnar Mammadov on the fourth board, in principle, played well – five victories, two draws and one defeat. But the rivals were better. As a result, Gulnar has only 7th place.
