The chess Olympics continues in Indian Chennai. Parties of the 9th round were played today.
The Azerbaijan male team tied today with the second team of India. Nijat Abasov won his party on the fourth board, and Vasif Duhrbeyli on the third – lost. On the first two boards, Shakhriyar Mammadyarov and Rauf Mammadov played with their rivals.
Two rounds before the finish, Azerbaijan takes 6th place with 14 points. Solely leads Uzbekistan, which has 16 points. Tomorrow our team will play with the Armenians. They have 15 points and 3rd place.
In previous matches, our chess players beat Algeria (4: 0), the Philippines (3: 1), Argentina (3: 1), then tied with Turkey (2: 2) and unexpectedly lost to Cuba (1.5: 2 ,5). After that, the Azerbaijani team alternately beat Slovakia (3: 1), Israel (3: 1) and Kazakhstan (2.5: 1.5).
The women’s team of Azerbaijan today defeated Mongolia – 2.5: 1.5. Gunai Mammadzade and Khana Baladzhaev won their fights on the first two boards. Govhar Badeullaeva tied, and Gulnar Mamedova lost.
As in the men’s tournament, and here Azerbaijan has 14 points and 6th place. And tomorrow our chess players will also play with Armenia, which with 14 points takes the 7th position. Four leading teams have 15 points. This is Poland, India, Kazakhstan and Georgia.
Earlier, our chess players beat the UAE (4: 0), Finland (4: 0), Greece (2.5: 1.5), Israel (3: 1), tied with Ukraine (2: 2), defeated Kazakhstan (3: 1), lost to India (1.5: 2.5) and divided glasses with Romania (2: 2).
