In India, two separate train accidents in which 17 people were killed occurred in the states of Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh over the past two days.
A passenger train collided with a freight train in the Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh state, according to authorities. As a result of the collision, the death toll increased to 11 people, another 20 people were injured.
It is noted that after clearing the tracks, train traffic in the affected area was restored.
The Indian Railways Administration announced the beginning of an investigation into the causes of the accident and promised to provide financial assistance to the families of the dead and injured.
In addition, as the Hindustan Times newspaper reports, in the morning in the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh, a train hit pedestrians, crossing the railroad tracks, resulting in the death of six more people.
