Ukrainian society did not perceive the idea of the Pope Francis, when two people symbolically together carried Ukrainian and Russian flags in the Vatican. This was said by President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in an interview with the Italian television channel RAI 1.
“I will explain to you how our society reacts to this: when dad prays for Ukraine, we are always grateful to him. When he showed the example of two people who carried Ukrainian and Russian flags that we should be friendship, we could not be this perceive, ”said Zelensky.
Now in Ukraine such an attitude to the Russian flag, it is perceived as a symbol of the invaders, the guarantor of the Constitution explained.
“There was a mental split, this is not the flag that rises at the competitions, at the Olympiads. Today it is the flag with which they killed us. And we have this association. It is difficult to understand when it does not concern you,” – added Zelensky.
Earlier, during the traditional procession in Rome, the Cross was kept by Ukrainian and Russian, symbolizing the “reconciliation” of two peoples.
