Ukrainian women look at future with hope, contrary to conflict

Ukrainian women continue to fight for the future of their country, contrary to all the difficulties associated with the ongoing armed conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, which has been going on for more than two years.

a resident of the Ukrainian city of the Dnieper, who seriously suffered from the conflict, was told about the Anadola’s correspondent.

Irina, who did not want to give her last name, said that the maternity hospital, the director of which she was in unusable state as a result of the Russian Army missile strike on the Dnieper on December 29, 2023.

According to the woman, she worked in this hospital for 35 years. On the day of the Russian attack, 12 women in labor, 4 newborn and health workers were evacuated from the hospital, she said.

Irina and her team from the beginning of the conflict on February 24, 2022 took a number of measures to ensure the safety of their patients. In particular, on the day of the attack, all patients of the maternity hospital were transferred to the basement.

“eight newborns were born during attacks. We tuned the equipment in such a way as to maintain the birth process, ensure the safety of patients and give mothers the opportunity to breastfeed their children,” she said.

Irina noted that the date of the beginning of the conflict was a “great tragedy” for the entire population of Ukraine.

“But here’s what I can tell you: Ukrainian women are optimistic. Our women look at the future with hope. Their husbands or sons are somewhere (fight), but they still have hope for the world,” said the Ukrainian.

Another resident of the Dnieper Svetlana, living near the maternity hospital, called the fact that the medical center came into an unsuitable state.

Svetlana said that during the attack she was at home and as soon as an explosion was heard, she and the dog ran to the corridor. “Then we heard the second explosion,” the woman recalls.

“I was lucky that my windows were located against the direction of the attack. And yet I felt an explosion and shaking. We saw the state of the maternity hospital after the explosion, the women will not be able to give birth there anymore,” she said.

At the same time, the Ukrainian attracted attention to the situation where women are left alone in the war zone. According to Svetlana, this is the most terrible thing that could happen.

“My two daughters left Ukraine. They got to Canada with great difficulty. They are safe, their children with them. They do not feel and do not see what is happening here,” said Svetlana.

The woman said she misses her children and grandchildren very much.
