UN: In world, 76 million internally displaced persons

All over the world there are 76 million internally displaced persons.

This was stated by Robert Piper, special hostel of the UN Secretary General on issues of solving the problem of internal movement.

“Today in the world there are 76 million internally displaced persons who have lost their houses, livelihoods, and in some cases official documents,” Piper said at a press conference in the UN Geneva Office.

He noted that people moved as a result of natural disasters manage to return to their homes after a short time, and the victims of conflicts in countries such as Syria and Somalia have to be far from their dwellings for many years. P>

Piper stated that over the past 10 years, the pace of internal movement has doubled. According to him, the highest level of movement was observed in Sudan.

In total in 116 countries, 76 million internally displaced persons live. 90 percent of them were forced to leave their homes due to armed conflicts.
