UN is concerned about “terrifying” humanitarian situation in Sudan

The Office of the UN Supreme Commissioner for Refugees (UVKB) is concerned about the “terrifying humanitarian situation” in Sudan in connection with clashes in this African country, and mainly in the province of Darfur. This was announced by the representative of the UN Supreme Commissioner Olga Sarrado at a meeting at the UN Geneva Office regarding the clashes between the army of Sudan and the quick response.

“We are afraid that the current clashes will cause an inciting to occurring previously ethnic and inter -communal tension against the background of problems with access to land and resources, as well as provoke further movement,” said Sarrado.

According to her, at the moment, according to estimates, more than 100 thousand Sudanists have fled to neighboring countries. “According to the UN UN, governments and partners, the number of refugees from Sudan to neighboring countries may exceed 800 thousand people. Such a figure was determined as part of financial and operational planning,” said the representative of the UN structure.

She noted that the countries neighboring with Sudan accept a large number of refugees. These countries will need additional support, Sarrado emphasized.
