According to the International Migration Organization (MOM) at the UN, since 2014, more than 52 thousand people have died, trying to leave countries affected by conflicts and humanitarian crises.
The organization noted that most migrants are decided on dangerous routes due to extreme despair, fleeing violence, instability, natural disasters and other emergency situations.
“Since 2014, more than 52 thousand people died while trying to leave the country’s crisis. This figure is almost three quarters of all the fixed deaths of migrants around the world for the same period,” follows from the statement.
According to the report, after political events in Afghanistan in 2021, more than 5 thousand people who left the country died during the transit.
It is also noted that more than 3,100 Arakan Muslims, saved from Myanmar, drowned as a result of shipwrecks.
MOM indicates that the central section of the Mediterranean Sea continues to be the most deadly route for migrants.
according to approximate data, about 25 thousand people went missing here.
“These figures are a tragic reminder that people risk their lives when, due to lack of security, opportunities and prospects, they have no other options,” said the general director of Moscow AMM Amy Pop.
Pop also noted the need for investment in the development of stability and opportunities in vulnerable communities, so that migration is not forced necessity, but a conscious choice.
